What is AFP?

AFT stands for Air Filled Porosity and relates to the amount of air space left in the growing media after it has been fully soaked and allowed to drain. The higher the AFP, the more open the compost which means the growing media is more freely draining but also means more irrigation will be required in drier times of the year. AFP is a very crude measurement and should only be used as a guide.
