Scotts Basilex Fungicide Given Hand-Held Approval For Lettuce
22 Nov 05 10:00Scotts fungicide, Basilex, has regained approval from the Pesticide Safety Directive (PSD) to be used with hand-held equipment on protected lettuce. Basilex is the only approved product for controlling diseases caused by rhizoctonia solani, which attack lettuce. The decision by the PSD means Basilex can again be applied with a hand-held sprayer to areas of crop where automated equipment is not economic.
Dr Jim Smith, technical manager of Scotts, commented: “Basilex has been successful for many years in treating rhizoctonia solani diseases. We are delighted to have re-instated the hand held use on protected lettuce.
“Many growers don’t have the equipment to apply Basilex with anything other than a knapsack sprayer. Now they can use hand-held sprayers to deliver protection to the base of the plant and surrounding soil surface, from which infection can start and spread.”
Basilex is a wettable powder containing the active ingredient tolclofos-methyl. It controls the mycelial growth of fungus and so greatly reduces crop infection through the roots and stem base. In addition to controlling rhizoctonia solani, Basilex prevents Damping Off of seedlings, Foot and Root Rots in ornamentals, Wirestem on brassicas and Bottom Rot of lettuce.
Basilex contains tolclofos-methyl. Always Read The Label: Use Pesticides Safely.
