Scotts Aquires Richardson's Scottish Peat Sites

29 Nov 05 10:00

Scotts has announced it has acquired three commercial peat sites from the official administrator of the Richardson’s business. Scotts is acquiring the freehold sites at Nutberry Moss (Dumfries); Fannyside Muir (Cumbernauld); and Letham (Stirling). The commercial peat sites add to the two sites in Carnwath Moor and Douglas Water, Sandilands, that Scotts currently owns in Scotland.

Speaking of the acquisition, general manager at Scotts, Martin Breddy, said: “The move demonstrates Scotts’ commitment to developing the UK growing media category for professional growers and consumers. The acquisition gives us access to top quality raw material, which we will use in our peat-diluted formulations to provide customers with outstanding growing results. Together with our Levington range of peat-free products, we can confidently pursue our strategy to add value to the market with superior, ‘fit for purpose’ products.”

The sites acquired are not designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest.  The successor of interest to Richardson’s, Humax, will continue to operate the peat bogs on Scotts’ behalf.
