Clarosan To Be Withdrawn
13 Jun 06 11:00The broad-spectrum aquatic algicide – Clarosan will be withdrawn from sale on the 1st September 2006. The withdrawl follows changes in the law and the introduction of the Biocidal Products Regulations (BPR), which means that the competent authorities for pesticide products Pesticides Safety Directorate (PSD) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have transferred some registrations. Clarosan has been moved from PSD to HSE and therefore comes under the scope of the BPR.
Commenting on the withdrawl Scotts technical product manager Simon Barnaby said: “Unfortunately the active ingredient supplier was unable to support the active ingredient terbutryn used in Clarosan through the BPR review process and as a consequence it must be withdrawn from sale. We know our customers value this product so we have undertaken a normal season’s production and stock will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. We can only apologise for any inconvenience that this withdrawal will cause and encourage users to order their supplies now.”
Clarosan has consistently provided users with a safe and efficient method of algae control in still and slow moving water. It is suitable for use in lakes, canals, ditches, farm ponds and other similar locations.
The formulation allows for early application so deoxygenation caused by dead or dying vegetation can be avoided. Regrowth after applying Clarosan should not occur for at least three to four months.
