For the second year running Scotts has sponsored Congleton in Bloom, a voluntary organisation in Congleton, Cheshire, dedicated to providing beautiful floral displays around the town. After achieving success in regional competitions in 2006, Congleton has progressed to an even higher level this year.

Margaret Williamson, from Congleton in Bloom, explains: “Scotts provided us with three boxes of Osmocote Exact slow-release fertilizer tablets, which are used for long-term feeding of baskets and containers, and also 84 bags of Levington M2 compost. We are very grateful for their sponsorship and their involvement has helped us to be even more successful than we were last year, with five awards this time.

Scotts' sponsorship of Congleton has helped the town to win five awards this year for its floral displays.
“Congleton took a silver in the RHS Britain in Bloom competition, large town category, and won the Cheshire Community Pride Award for the Best Kept Small Town in Cheshire, beating Nantwich into second place,” added Margaret. “We also won the Young Volunteers Award in the same competition, and this is the one I am most pleased about because it portrays youngsters in such a positive light. It involves 12 schools in planting up their named floral tubs, aided by youth organisations such as the Air Training Corps, Army Cadets and Girl Guides.

“We also won North West in Bloom, in the large town category, plus the Mayor of Chester’s Millennium Cup for Volunteers. We have had an exceptional year and everyone is very proud of the results.”

Derek Hampson, of Scotts, said: “We are delighted that Congleton has received even more accolades for its floral displays this year. It is important for us to support local groups who are dedicated to making the best of their towns.”
