Nemasys

Nemasys G is an innovative biological control product which is a  proven solution to the problem of chafer grubs, and can be used as part of an Integrated Pest Control Programme.

Chafer grubs are Leatherjackets cause extensive damage by feeding on plant roots.  Secondary damage is just as destructive.  Birds, badgers, foxes and other small mammals searching and pecking for the larvae can rip up the already weakened turf.  Moles and badgers are especially attracted to the protein-filled larvae.

    Chafter Grub Turf Damage
Secondary damage can occur as birds and mammals turn over the turf in search of chafer grubs and leatherjackets

Leatherjacket:  The eggs are laid in late August and hatch within 2 weeks. The young start feeding immediately.  "Nemasys J" should be watered into turf about 2 weeks after the adult Cranefly have been seen.  This is usually from August to September, and this is the best time to apply the nematodes as the soil temperature is around 12 degrees.

Chafer Grub:  The eggs of the Chafer Beetle hatch and start feeding on the roots of the grass from July until late September.  After this period they burrow deep into the ground and lay dormant under the soil before moving to the surface in Spring when they emerge as beetles and start the cycle over.

The natural solution

Nemasys G and Nemasys J provide the perfect biological control by entering the larvae which stops them feeding.  This happens within 3 days of infection.  The larvae then die within 10-14 days.  The nematodes complete their life cycle within the larvae, then enter the soil seeking out more hosts. And so the pest control continues, naturally.

  • "Nemasys J" contains the insect parasitic nematode Heterohabditis megidis for the control of Chafer Grubs.
  • "Nemasys G" contains Steinernema feltiae for the control of Leatherjackets.
  • Larvae die within 10-14 days.
  • Neither product is detrimental to turf and both are harmless to pets and wildlife.
